JEWELLERY AND DIAMOND PROCESSING INDUSTRY |

Jewellery and diamond processing industry in Armenia as compared to other sectors in the economy is relatively new. Currently the sector is a leader in terms of export volumes and is one of the progressively developing sectors in the economy. Foreign investments mainly from Belgium and Israel and the low labor costs were the major factors of success for the sector. Currently the companies of jewellery and diamond processing industry are mostly foreign-owned and the major products exported are processed diamonds and semi-precious stones and gold. |

MINING INDUSTRY |
|
Mining sector in Armenia was built on an extensive resource base of copper, molybdenum, zinc and gold and construction stones. In 1980s Armenia supplied over 25% of Soviet molybdenum, being the second producer of copper sulphate and the third producer of refined copper. Suffering with the same problem as the other industries after the transition to market economy, the industry had the major problem of attracting investments to modernize the equipment at work. Several foreign companies have shown a strong interest in investing in the mining sector in Armenia and concern mostly gold mining/processing and copper and molybdenum processing. |

MACHINERY AND ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY |

The review of the machinery and electronics industry in Armenia describes the situation in the field before and after the Soviet Union collapse. During the soviet period this field had a significant competitive edge and occupied the third place according to various parameters in the former SU after Russia and the Ukraine. Affected by the severe consequences of the SU collapse, the companies of this sector suffered and still do from the major problem - drought of investments. |
